D. J. Science College, public community college in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan
D. J. Science College is a publicly funded college on Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Road in Karachi, offering courses in biology, chemistry, physics, geology, microbiology, and mathematics. The campus brings together historic buildings housing classrooms, specialized laboratories, a library, and outdoor sports areas used for cricket and football.
The college was founded in the late 1800s during British rule and is among the oldest schools of its kind in Karachi. Over the following decades, it grew steadily, adding departments and facilities as the demand for science education in the city increased.
The college takes its name from a benefactor and draws students from across Karachi who come to study the sciences. On campus, students in uniform move between old buildings, gather in open areas to study, and use the sports fields that sit alongside the classrooms.
The college sits on Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Road, close to the Burns Road area, and can be reached from different parts of Karachi without much difficulty. The main building is visible from the street, and the grounds are generally open on weekdays.
Abdul Qadeer Khan, the Pakistani scientist known for his work in nuclear research, studied here as a young man before going on to national prominence. Few visitors who pass through the campus gates are aware of this connection to one of Pakistan's most recognized scientific figures.
