Divnogorsk, Industrial city in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia
Divnogorsk is an industrial city on the banks of the Yenisei River in Krasnoyarsk Krai, situated at about 260 meters elevation along a mountain slope. Dense forests and mountain ranges surround the settlement on all sides.
The city was founded in 1956 as a worker settlement for building the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric station and gained city status in 1963. The power station, built by the city's founders, remains a key industrial facility in the region.
The name comes from an old monastery that stood here until the 1920s, combining religious buildings with workshops for bricks and candles. This blend of faith and craft shaped the character of the place for many years.
Buses regularly connect the city to Krasnoyarsk, about 40 kilometers to the northwest, offering access to additional services and facilities. Visitors should bring warm clothing as the climate here is continental with harsh winters.
The Yenisei River offers an unexpected destination for water sports and river trekking during the brief summer months, despite the city's industrial image. Waterways allow visitors to explore the landscape from a completely different perspective.
