Dudinka, Port city in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia
Dudinka is a port city on the Yenisei River in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia. The settlement stretches along steep riverbanks with shipyards, warehouses, and apartment blocks rising toward the hills inland.
The settlement began in 1667 as a trading post for furs. Railway links and new dock facilities in the 1930s transformed it into a port hub, becoming a town in 1951.
The name comes from the Nganasan language and means "mouth". Local residents combine reindeer herding with port work, and along the waterfront promenade you can see fishermen preparing their nets.
Ships dock at the port between June and October, while specialized icebreakers operate year-round. Warm clothing is necessary even in summer, as temperatures remain cool and wind blows strongly from the river.
An ice arena right on the Arctic Circle hosts curling competitions that draw international teams. The venue has transparent walls allowing views out to the tundra and ice floes on the river.
