Egiz-Oba, reservoir in Crimea
Egiz-Oba is a small reservoir located south of Bakhchisarai, situated within a narrow canyon known as the Kachinski Gates. Water flows through a concrete channel into the basin, which covers roughly one square kilometer and is ringed by reeds and vegetation.
Construction began in 1927 and took roughly eight years to complete. A dam was built to enlarge what was originally a small natural lake, creating a reservoir to supply water to nearby farms and settlements.
The reservoir draws water from the Kachaa River, which flows through canyons and rocky terrain. It remains a gathering place where local families and visitors come to spend time in nature and connect with the simple rhythm of life by the water.
The reservoir is most easily reached by car from Bakhchisarai by heading toward the village of Sviatogorsk and following signs. Local buses also run from Bakhchisarai to nearby stops, with just a short walk to reach the water's edge.
It is the oldest reservoir on the Crimean Peninsula, built with a dam exceeding one kilometer in length. The remote location within the canyon created an isolated ecosystem where fishing has remained a popular pastime for generations.
