Engelbrektsstatyn

Engelbrektsstatyn is a bronze sculpture standing atop a tall column in a public garden in Stockholm, depicting a medieval figure holding a raised flag. The structure was designed by a prominent architect and creates a striking visual presence within the garden space.

The monument was created in the 1930s and depicts a figure who rebelled in medieval times against a Nordic union. This work emerged from a competition that attracted multiple artists.

The original plan was to commission a different well-known sculptor for the project, but an open art competition led to a different choice. An artistic shift of this kind was unusual at the time and proved worthwhile through the quality of execution.
