8 Shenton Way

8 Shenton Way is a cylindrical office tower with 52 floors rising to approximately 235 meters in Singapore's central business area. The structure uses a concrete core with steel beams to support extensive office spaces across three basement levels.

The tower opened in 1986 as the headquarters for Singapore's Ministry of Finance when the area was undergoing major redevelopment. The building later transferred to Temasek Holdings and became a defining landmark of the evolving financial district.

The building shaped how Singapore's financial center developed and reflects the city's transformation during the 1980s. Its design represents how the district transitioned from traditional layouts to modern office spaces.

The building has 22 elevators including 16 double-deck systems to move people efficiently between floors. Visitors should know this is an office complex where access may be restricted to certain areas.

In 2023, this became the tallest building ever demolished by choice, clearing space for a new 305-meter tower. The demolition marked a rare moment when an established landmark made way for a taller replacement.
