UIC Building, Brutalist skyscraper in Downtown Core, Singapore
The UIC Building reaches 152 meters into the sky with 40 floors of raw concrete surfaces and strong geometric shapes defining its structure.
Upon completion in 1973, the UIC Building became Singapore's tallest structure and maintained this status for one year before other towers surpassed it.
The building represents a period of rapid development in Singapore's architecture when Brutalist design principles shaped the urban landscape of the 1970s.
Located at 5 Shenton Way, the structure served as an office building until 2012, when demolition began to make way for the V on Shenton development.
During its final renovation in 1986, workers applied a new concrete facade that enhanced the structural elements characteristic of Brutalist architecture.
