Maghain Aboth Synagogue, Neoclassical synagogue in Rochor, Singapore
Maghain Aboth Synagogue is a neoclassical prayer house in Rochor featuring Palladian arcades, Roman columns, and three Stars of David on its facade. It stands as Southeast Asia's largest Jewish house of prayer.
The building was constructed in 1878 after Sir Manasseh Meyer acquired the site. It replaced an earlier prayer house that stood in a shophouse near Raffles Place.
The building follows Orthodox Jewish traditions with separated prayer areas: women use the upper gallery while men occupy the ground floor. This layout shapes how the community gathers for daily worship.
The building is located on Waterloo Street and hosts three daily services. Visitors will find a ritual bath, a kosher restaurant, and other amenities on the grounds.
The adjacent Jacob Ballas Centre, opened in 2007, houses rabbinical housing alongside a Jewish museum. This addition provides modern space for education and community life.
