Changi Airport MRT station, MRT subway station in Singapore
Changi Airport MRT is an underground railway station within the airport area that connects directly to Terminals 2 and 3. The station features wide platforms, double tracks, and an illuminated footbridge spanning the platform to help travelers move between terminals with their luggage.
The station opened in 2002 as the terminus of the East-West Line, designed to carry travelers directly from the airport to the city without requiring additional transport. In the future, it will become part of the Thomson-East Coast Line, expected to establish its connection in the mid-2030s.
The station takes its name from the airport and serves as a vital landmark for travelers from around the globe. Its glass walls and open design create a sense of modernity and welcoming accessibility that reflects the international character of the location.
The station features wide ticket gates and elevators to accommodate travelers with luggage or mobility needs. Tactile floor tiles guide visually impaired visitors, making it straightforward to navigate through all areas of the station.
The two large glass halls at the exits stand about 115 feet (35 meters) tall and were among the tallest of their kind globally when built. The station features two platforms arranged in an island layout where trains end and turn around, an unusual arrangement in Singapore's rail system.
