Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a house of worship designed in Neo-Gothic style with pointed arches and double rows of Corinthian columns supporting its structure. Numerous stained-glass windows line the building and allow colored light to fill the interior space.

A priest established the first small chapel from palm leaves in 1853 to serve the growing Catholic population in the area. This simple structure was later replaced by a more permanent brick building that still stands today.

The church serves as a spiritual home for the Teochew Catholic community, with services held in their dialect creating a sense of belonging. This religious and linguistic connection shapes how local families experience and pass on their faith together.

The church is located on Upper Serangoon Road and is accessible by public transportation. Visitors should note that religious services take place regularly, and respectful clothing is expected when entering.

A marble statue of the Virgin Mary stands at the main entrance, donated by the Sultan of Johor in 1947 with accompanying angel figurines. This gift represents an unusual bridge between religious communities in the region's history.
