Compass One, Shopping center in Sengkang, Singapore
Compass One is a six-storey shopping center in Sengkang, Singapore, bringing together shops, restaurants and service providers under one roof. The glass and steel facade lets plenty of daylight into the corridors, while the upper floors house supermarkets and additional outlets.
The center opened in 2002 and served from the start as a local hub for the growing neighborhood. After renovations in 2015, it reopened in 2016 with fresh design and updated areas.
The library inside serves many residents from the surrounding area as a meeting place for reading and studying. Families with children often use the public areas on weekends, when the shops and restaurants are well attended.
Connections to Sengkang MRT station, the light rail and the bus interchange are located on the first two floors, so you can enter the building directly from public transport. Most areas are accessible via escalators and lifts, which is also practical with pushchairs or wheelchairs.
A fish soup stall inside supplies itself from a farm in Changi and serves freshly caught grouper every day. This direct link between kitchen and breeding facility is rare to find in Singapore's shopping centers.
