Paya Lebar Air Base, Military air base in Paya Lebar, Singapore.
Paya Lebar Air Base is a military airfield in eastern Singapore with hangars, runways, and aircraft maintenance workshops. The installation contains several buildings for administration and technical operations spread across the facility.
The site operated as Singapore's international airport from 1955 until civilian flights relocated to Changi in 1980. Following this shift, the facility then served the Air Force as a base for military operations and maintenance work.
The Air Force Museum adjacent to the base displays engines, uniforms, and equipment from different eras of military aviation. Visitors can observe how the exhibits show the working lives of pilots and maintenance crews.
The base itself is not open for tourist visits, but the adjacent Air Force Museum can be visited during regular opening hours. Getting there is easiest by car or taxi, using the road that leads to the museum's visitor parking.
The installation will relocate by 2030, freeing around 800 hectares of land in eastern Singapore for new urban development. This relocation represents one of the largest transformations of the city's landscape in the region.
