Stevens MRT station, underground Mass Rapid Transit station in Singapore
Stevens MRT station is an underground metro station in Tanglin with two stacked platform levels to accommodate the site's constraints from a nearby canal and flyover. The facility sits about 34 meters below ground and features four tracks and four platforms, creating a key interchange point with clear signage and accessible facilities including escalators and lifts.
Originally announced in 2008 as part of Downtown Line Stage 2, the station opened in December 2015 following years of construction that began in 2009. In November 2022, the Thomson-East Coast Line was added to the station, transforming it into a major interchange and expanding connections across the city.
The station takes its name from Stevens Road, a major street in the area. Inside, two artworks from the Art in Transit program are displayed: a mosaic showing nutmeg and rubber seed patterns that honors the area's farming heritage from the 1800s, and a piece featuring student book drawings that reflects the playful spirit of nearby schools.
The station is equipped with escalators and lifts and easily accessible on foot, with signs in English making navigation straightforward for visitors. Service runs on the Downtown Line and Thomson-East Coast Line with trains departing every few minutes, and an air-conditioned underpass connects the station to nearby schools.
The station was initially called Whitley and Wayang Satu in early plans but retained the name Stevens following a public vote. Construction used specialized tunnel boring machines that minimized disruption at street level, with new station entrances at Dunearn Road and Whitley Road opening in 2019.
