Swissôtel The Bosphorus is a large hotel in Istanbul set on a hillside estate with gardens overlooking the Bosphorus strait. The building rises several floors and the rooms are spacious, with some facing the water and others looking out over the surrounding parkland.
The land where the hotel now stands was once part of the Ottoman imperial Çırağan gardens, used by the court in earlier centuries. The site was developed in the 1980s and opened as a hotel under the Swissôtel brand in 1988.
The hotel sits close to the Nişantaşı neighborhood, where upscale shops and cafes line the streets and locals spend their afternoons. Wandering into that area gives visitors a sense of how wealthier Istanbul residents live today.
The hotel is in the Beşiktaş district, which puts it within reach of several central areas, though some of the older historic neighborhoods require a bit of travel. Taking a ferry from a nearby dock is one of the more direct ways to cross to the Asian side of the city.
The hotel grounds contain one of the few large private parks in this part of Istanbul, where mature trees surround terraces that look directly over the water. This kind of open green space next to the Bosphorus is rarely found so close to the city center.
