Kapıkaya Canyon

Kapıkaya Canyon is a canyon in Adana Province characterized by steep limestone walls that rise dramatically from the riverbed and create habitats for diverse plant species. The valley is cut through by Çakıt Creek, which shaped this rock formation through erosion over a long time.

The region served as a trade route in ancient times, where goods and people were transported through the mountain landscape. This passage was a preferred way for travelers between different settlements because of the canyon's natural structure.

The names of villages in the canyon reflect local languages and describe plants, animals, and water sources found throughout the area. Visitors notice how residents of nearby settlements use the canyon's resources and maintain their connection to the landscape.

The path to the canyon is well marked and starts at Kapıkaya Village, where visitors can easily find the entrance. It is best to wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water, especially on warm days, as shade inside the canyon is limited.

In spring, a natural pool forms at a central location, fed by water from Bahçecik Waterfall and inviting for swimming. Wooden platforms around it provide safe access to this water area and allow visitors to approach the water easily.
