Demirköprü, Railway bridge in Adana, Turkey
Demirköprü is a railway bridge spanning about 530 meters across the Seyhan River in Adana. The steel structure connects the neighborhoods of Reşatbey and Sinanpaşa.
German engineers built this bridge in 1912 as part of the ambitious Berlin-Baghdad Railway project. Since then it has served continuously as a key transport link for rail traffic in the region.
The name comes from Turkish words meaning iron and bridge, describing what you see when you look at it. Locals refer to it straightforwardly by these practical terms.
The bridge is active in service and underwent comprehensive renovation in 2006. Visitors can view the structure from the river banks or watch trains that use the Adana-Aleppo line daily.
The bridge demonstrates early 20th-century engineering methods through its steel framework design that has withstood daily use over many decades. The craftsmanship is still visible today in the riveted connections and open steel framework.
