Longtan Lake, Lake with Buddhist temple in Longtan District, Taiwan
Longtan Lake is an 18-hectare body of water with a temple at its center, connected by a suspension bridge and surrounded by walking paths. The shoreline features diverse areas including bicycle trails, playgrounds, exercise stations and observation points.
This reservoir was originally built to serve agricultural irrigation in the surrounding fields. Following the construction of temple facilities in 1971, it gradually transformed into a recreational destination.
The lake serves as a venue for dragon boat races that bring together competitors and spectators celebrating traditional Chinese water sports. These events shape the rhythm of life around the water and demonstrate the place's importance to the local community.
The lake features bicycle trails, children's pools, playgrounds and exercise stations distributed throughout the area. Multiple pavilions and observation points provide rest areas and support various activities for different types of visitors.
The lake functions simultaneously as a recreational zone and as an irrigation source, still supporting local farming today. This dual purpose makes the site a place where leisure and traditional land use coexist.
