Haiduan

Haiduan is a mountainous township in Taitung County covering a large landscape with steep terrain and forest cover. The area contains six main villages where traditional houses and newer structures sit among trees and agricultural land.

The region kept its indigenous population largely isolated until the late 1800s when outside contact increased. This isolated history shaped how the communities developed and remains visible in settlement patterns today.

The Bunun people here maintain traditions tied to agricultural seasons and community gatherings that shape village life. You can observe these customs during local festivals and in how families organize their daily activities around the land.

You can reach the area by road, with Wulu and Haiduan villages serving as main access points to the different settlements. Local guides or organized tours are helpful since mountain paths are steep and conditions change with weather.

Natural hot springs emerge from cliff faces high in the mountains, forming thermal pools accessible only through difficult terrain. These hidden waters require effort to reach but reward visitors with a rare bathing experience surrounded by untouched forest.
