Rainham, Suburban district in East London, England
Rainham is an area in East London that stretches along the River Thames with residential neighborhoods, shops and offices, and protected green spaces mixed together. The district includes parks and open areas that break up the buildings.
The area was named Raineham in the Domesday Book of 1086, with roots in Old English from centuries before. Over time it changed from a farming settlement into the residential district it is today.
The Church of St Helen and St Giles anchors the community with its layered architecture reflecting different periods, and locals continue to gather there for worship and events.
Rainham railway station offers direct links to central London, and multiple bus routes serve the area for getting around. The district is easy to reach and navigate using public transport.
A bronze age collection of 453 artifacts including weapons and tools was found here in 2018, known as the Havering hoard. These discoveries show the area had human settlement thousands of years ago.
