Castell y Gwynt

Castell y Gwynt is a summit in the Glyderau range featuring distinctive jagged rock formations at its peak. Located within Snowdonia National Park, the mountain rises to 972 meters and displays sharp, exposed stone structures across its upper slopes.

The mountain received its Nuttall classification following a 2007 survey that confirmed its geological prominence. This recognition established it as a notable peak for hikers and fell collectors seeking to record their ascents.

The name references the castle-like rock spires that crown the summit, a feature that locals and hikers readily notice when approaching the mountain. This visual quality has made the place recognizable in the landscape for generations.

Multiple hiking trails lead to the summit from different starting points, with the main route beginning at the Ogwen Valley parking area. The route is passable in most seasons, though hikers should expect changeable weather and rocky terrain.

The mountain served as a filming location for the 1981 Walt Disney production 'Dragonslayer', with its distinctive rock formations providing an ideal backdrop for fantasy sequences. The jagged spires became part of the film's visual storytelling.
