Glaramara, Mountain summit in Lake District National Park, England
Glaramara is a mountain in the Lake District Fells that rises to 783 meters and features steep rocky slopes dropping into surrounding valleys. The ridge extends for several kilometers with multiple smaller peaks creating a dramatic skyline when viewed from different angles.
The name derives from Old Norse and refers to mountain shelters once situated near steep chasms in the area. Glacial erosion during ice ages shaped the current ridge formation and valleys that characterize this summit today.
The Glaramara Fell Race takes place annually, drawing participants to compete across eight kilometers from the outdoor center to the summit.
The ascent can begin from Seatoller, where parking is available near the trailhead for convenient access. The climb is steep with rocky sections that require sturdy footwear and careful footing, particularly when conditions are wet.
The northern slopes contain Dove Nest Caves, a rare natural cave formation in this mountain region. The cave entrance becomes visible during the ascent and offers an unexpected geological find along the route.
