Garnedd Uchaf

Garnedd Uchaf rises to 926 meters in the Carneddau range with steep grassy slopes leading upward. A prominent rock outcrop marks the summit, making it easy to spot when climbing.

The mountain received its alternate name Carnedd Gwenllian in 2009 to honor the daughter of Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, the last native Prince of Wales. This renaming acknowledges an important figure in Welsh history.

The summit is part of the Welsh 3000s, a collection of mountains in Wales that reach above 914 meters high. These peaks hold special meaning for local hikers and attract climbers from across the region.

Several hiking routes lead to the summit from lower elevations, and navigation tools with weather-appropriate gear are essential for safe climbing. Sturdy footwear and regular breaks help manage the steep ascent in varying conditions.

Snow can persist on the northern face until June, extending the winter season much longer than in the valleys below. This makes the summit a compelling spot for observing how high altitude weather patterns differ from lower elevations.
