Pen y Castell, Summit in Carneddau mountains, Wales.
Pen y Castell is a 623-meter summit in the Carneddau range with rocky outcrops scattered across a small boggy plateau. Views from here sweep toward the Conwy valley and the peaks that surround it.
The Welsh name translates to 'Head of the Castle', reflecting the strategic importance this high point once held in northern Wales. Such elevated positions were historically valued for defense and observation.
The summit forms part of the Carneddau mountain range, a designated area for hiking where numerous walking paths intersect at different elevations.
The summit is reachable via several walking routes that start from different points in the area. An Ordnance Survey map is helpful for navigation, especially to distinguish between the different paths and stay on course.
The summit features a large boulder that rises 0.46 meters higher than a nearby outcrop and 2.43 meters above a rock tor to the east-southeast.
