Llwytmor, Mountain summit in Gwynedd, United Kingdom
Llwytmor is a mountain summit in the Carneddau range rising to 849 meters, with fields of boulders and several stone cairns scattered across its broad slopes. The northern side of the peak shows these rocky features most clearly and creates a stark appearance against the surrounding terrain.
The mountain's name changed from Llwydmor to Llwytmor in the 1960s because of a typographical error on official survey maps. This mistake became the permanent name and remains official today.
The Welsh name Llwytmor Uchaf means upper big grey, showing how local names were traditionally given based on what the mountain looked like. This naming practice helped people understand and remember the landscape around them.
Multiple routes lead to the summit from Abergwyngregyn, with the most direct path going through Cwm Coch to reach the top. The terrain is rocky and uneven throughout the climb, so sturdy hiking boots and careful footing are important.
On clear days, visitors can see four countries from the summit: Wales, England, Ireland through the Wicklow Mountains, and the Isle of Man across the Irish Sea. This rare view makes the location especially rewarding in good weather.
