Westhall Castle, Tower house in Oyne, Scotland
Westhall Castle rises three stories high with harled walls and features a distinctive L-plan layout with a round tower at the southeast angle point.
Originally held by the Bishops of Aberdeen in the 13th century, the property transferred to the Gordons during the Reformation before Reverend James Horne purchased it in 1681.
The castle structure represents the architectural evolution of Scottish tower houses, incorporating elements from the 16th, 17th, and 19th centuries in its design.
The castle remains in a deteriorated condition despite remedial works conducted to protect the structure from water damage and unauthorized entry through the years.
This location marked the starting point for the construction of the Great North of Scotland Railway in 1852, connecting it to regional transportation development.
