Morgan County, County division in eastern Tennessee, US
Morgan County is an administrative region in eastern Tennessee that spans across the Cumberland Mountains with varied terrain. Forests, rivers, and protected natural areas make up much of the landscape throughout the county.
The county was established in 1817 from parts of neighboring regions and named after Daniel Morgan, a general in the American Revolution. European settlers moved to the area during the 1800s and created a significant settlement that became the county's center.
The settlers who founded Wartburg brought European traditions that shaped the county's character through their building styles and way of life. This heritage remains visible in local craftsmanship and how people interact with the landscape today.
Wartburg is the county's main administrative hub where residents can access government services. The mountainous terrain requires extra time when traveling between different areas, so plan your route carefully.
A severe storm in 2002 left lasting marks on the landscape and changed how the community approached emergency planning. This led to new protective measures and stronger support systems for residents.
