Guardian Angels Church, Gothic Revival church in Chaska, Minnesota
Guardian Angels Church is a Gothic Revival church building featuring pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and a 162-foot steeple designed by architect John Geiser. The structure dominates the skyline of Chaska with its characteristic vertical lines and stone construction.
The original structure was built between 1858 and 1860 as a small brick building serving German immigrant communities in Minnesota. Following a major fire in 1902 that destroyed the interior and steeple, the church was completely rebuilt within a year.
The name comes from a young girl who chose an image of a Guardian Angel among pictures of saints when the church was founded. This story remains part of the community's identity today.
The church is accessible during religious services and is located centrally in downtown Chaska. Visitors should check ahead to see if tours or visits outside of services can be arranged.
A devastating fire in 1902 destroyed the interior and caused the steeple to collapse, yet the community rebuilt the church in just one year. This rapid reconstruction shows how deeply the community was committed to maintaining their place of worship.
