Fulton Road Bridge, Deck arch bridge in Cleveland, Ohio
Fulton Road Bridge is a deck arch bridge in Cleveland that spans Big Creek, John Nagy Boulevard, several railroad tracks, and portions of the Metroparks Zoo. The structure features four traffic lanes, separate bicycle paths, and sidewalks for pedestrian passage.
The original structure was built in 1932 and was replaced with a new bridge in 2010. The replacement became necessary due to asbestos contamination found in the original framework.
The bridge connects different neighborhoods and is used daily by commuters, cyclists, and pedestrians passing through. It serves as a practical link between the zoo area and surrounding residential districts.
The bridge can be used by foot, bicycle, or vehicle since separate pathways are provided for each mode of transport. During wet weather, pedestrians and cyclists should be aware of slippery surfaces and reduced visibility.
Three metal protective structures were installed beneath the original roadway in 1997 before the old bridge was demolished. These canopies were specifically designed to shield zoo visitors from falling debris.
