Founded by Patrick Carrier in 1982 in Boston's Old Corner Bookstore building, the store expanded to Harvard Square in 1988 and launched its website in 1995.
The store organized an Adventure Travel Lecture Series with presentations from notable writers including Jan Morris, Paul Theroux, and Bruce Chatwin.
Customers can explore over 40,000 travel resources including guidebooks, maps, outdoor recreation guides, language materials, and photography publications.
The establishment operated until July 4, 2011, serving more than 2 million customers before Brookline Booksmith acquired its name and website in 2012.
