Hell's Kitchen Park

Hell's Kitchen Park is a small public green space located between West 47th and 48th Streets along Tenth Avenue, with playgrounds, walking paths, and seating throughout the grounds. The site is maintained by NYC Parks and includes shaded areas beneath trees and benches for visitors to use.

This park began in 1979 when residents transformed a former parking lot into a green space after years of advocating for more plants and trees in the neighborhood. A major renovation in the early 2000s upgraded the facilities and improved how the space functions for visitors.

This space serves as a gathering point where neighbors meet casually throughout the day and local groups hold regular events. The open layout and seating encourage everyday interactions among residents of this densely populated neighborhood.

The space is easy to reach with a level layout and several entry points from the surrounding streets. Visitors will find outdoor seating, shade beneath trees, and a small play area perfect for a quick stop while walking around the neighborhood.

This spot started as a bare parking lot sitting unused in the middle of a heavily industrial area before residents completely reimagined it. The transformation shows how a small group of people turned a neglected piece of land into a working community space.
