Herns Mill Covered Bridge, Covered bridge in Greenbrier County, United States.
Herns Mill Covered Bridge is a timber structure that crosses Milligan Creek in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. The bridge features distinctive red wooden siding and a covered design typical of 19th-century rural crossings.
This crossing was built in 1884 using a Queen post truss design, a structural method common to rural bridges of that era. It originally connected a local mill and farmsteads on the western side of the creek.
The bridge represents one of two remaining covered bridges in Greenbrier County, earning recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.
The bridge sits along Herns Mill Road and is accessible from Lewisburg by heading west on Route 60. Visitors should allow time to explore the surrounding creek area, which offers natural views.
Major restoration work in 2000 strengthened the structure with reinforced foundations and updated the exterior materials. This intervention helped preserve the bridge while maintaining its historic wooden appearance.
