James W. Marshall House, Federal brick house in Lambertville, United States.

The James W. Marshall House features federal architectural elements including decorative frieze work, pegged front doors, and period-specific interior furnishings throughout its two floors.

Built in 1816 by Philip Marshall, this residence became notable as the childhood home of James Wilson Marshall, who later discovered gold in California in 1848.

The building transformed from a family residence to a convent for the Sisters of Mercy in 1882, serving as both living quarters and educational center for 84 years.

The house opens to visitors on Saturdays and Sundays between 1 PM and 4 PM from late April through October, with guided town tours starting at 2 PM first Sunday monthly.

The structure required complete reconstruction of its back wall during restoration, using materials that matched the original 1816 construction specifications.
