George Nakashima House, Studio and Workshop is a 12-acre compound with eighteen buildings spread across both sides of Aquetong Road. The site includes residential areas, furniture production spaces, and workshops where craftspeople shape wood by hand.

The property was established in the mid-20th century as a working studio and residence for a master craftsman. It gained National Historic Landmark status in 2014, recognizing its importance in the development of modern furniture and design in America.

The site demonstrates how Japanese design principles blend with American modernist architecture throughout the buildings. This fusion shows itself in the materials chosen and how spaces connect to the surrounding landscape.

The site opens for guided tours and design appointments Monday through Thursday, with summer months being the best time to visit. Visitors should be prepared for walking across uneven ground and pathways connecting the various buildings on the property.

The Conoid Studio displays an unusual roof shaped like a mathematical sine wave pattern. This distinctive geometric feature makes the building stand out among the other structures on the grounds.
