Letsche Elementary School, Grundschule in den Vereinigten Staaten

Letsche Elementary School is a brick school building in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, constructed in 1905 and located on Cliff Street in the Crawford-Roberts neighborhood. The structure features symmetrical design with classical columns and art deco paneling above the windows, with an addition built in 1941 that extended the building toward Bedford Avenue.

The building was designed by architect Marion M. Steen in 1905 and functioned as an elementary school before transforming in 1975 into an alternative education center serving students with diverse needs. It was recognized by the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 and later closed around 2007, after which it remained largely vacant.

The school served the Hill District community for many generations as a place where local students learned and grew. It remains a symbol of education and neighborhood history for residents who remember its role in their lives.

The building sits on Cliff Street in the Crawford-Roberts neighborhood and is clearly visible from the street, with large windows allowing good views of the original architecture and design details. The simple, respectful entrance makes it easy to spot and study the structure's early 20th century character.

The school operated for decades as an alternative education center offering specialized programs for students facing particular challenges, including pregnant students and those who had dropped out and wanted to return. This role set it apart from typical elementary schools and made it an important refuge for learners with varied needs.
