The Majestic Building is a Beaux-Arts office building in downtown Detroit. Its 14 floors feature terra cotta facades and Italian marble throughout the corridors and lobby, showcasing the craftsmanship of its era.
The building was constructed in 1896 as Detroit's second skyscraper and shaped the city's skyline. It remained the tallest structure until 1909, when the Ford Building surpassed it.
The building served as home to retail businesses that shaped Detroit's commercial life. These commercial uses show how the area functioned as a center for trade and enterprise at the time.
A Weather Bureau observation deck on the roof once provided visitors with extensive city views. The downtown location makes it easy to reach on foot while exploring the historic district.
In 1916, a stuntman known as the Human Fly scaled the exterior walls while crowds watched from Woodward Avenue below. This daring feat turned the building into a spectacle that captured the city's attention.
