The Maui Academy of Performing Arts occupies a 13,000-square-foot building that includes rehearsal spaces, classrooms, and performance areas for theater and dance instruction.
Linda Takita, daughter of polka musician Frankie Yankovic, established the institution as Maui Youth Theater in 1974, marking the beginning of structured performing arts education on the island.
The academy has produced more than 500 theatrical performances and trained numerous artists, including Hawaiian musicians Kealiʻi Reichel and Amy Hānaialiʻi Gilliom.
The facility offers year-round classes for different age groups, presents seasonal productions, and maintains educational programs that reach 25,000 students across Hawaiian schools.
The Voices Drama Education Program integrates drama with literacy skills, serving over 5,000 students throughout Maui County.
