Peninsula Point Light
Peninsula Point Light, Lighthouse in Delta County, Michigan
The Peninsula Point Light features a white tower structure with a cast-iron lantern room accessible through an internal spiral staircase.
Built in 1865 following Congressional approval, this lighthouse guided vessels through hazardous shipping lanes from Escanaba and Gladstone until 1934.
The lighthouse represents maritime advancement in the Great Lakes region, with multiple keepers maintaining its operations before automation in 1922.
The National Forest Service manages this National Register of Historic Places site, allowing visitors to climb the tower and explore the grounds.
The location serves as a gathering point for thousands of monarch butterflies in September before their migration across Lake Michigan.
