Delta Hotel, Historic hotel building in Escanaba, United States.
The Delta Hotel is a five-story building with Neoclassical design featuring a rusticated ground floor, originally built to serve as the city's primary lodging destination. The structure now combines a brewpub restaurant on the ground level with 32 renovated residential units in the upper floors.
The building opened in 1914 and remained Escanaba's preferred lodging for travelers and business visitors through 1962. Following the Roman Catholic Diocese's purchase, it underwent a major change in purpose to serve community needs.
The building reflects Escanaba's growth as a commercial hub where businesses and lodgings clustered along Ludington Street during the late 1800s. The Neoclassical facade with its textured first-floor exterior shows the style that local business owners chose to project success and stability.
Visitors can access the ground-floor brewpub restaurant to experience the building's current operations and dining offerings. The location on Ludington Street puts the structure in the heart of the downtown walkable district for easy exploration.
From 1962 to 1992, the building operated as a senior citizens home, shifting its purpose from serving travelers to supporting the local community. This three-decade period of social care left its mark on the building before it became a mixed-use space.
