Sand Point Light, Lighthouse in Escanaba, United States.
The 13-meter tall brick lighthouse features a square tower with an octagonal lantern and red roofs alongside a connected keeper's residence.
Congress allocated funds for Sand Point Light construction in 1864, addressing the need to guide vessels transporting iron ore from Lake Superior mines.
Mary Terry operated the lighthouse from 1868 to 1886 as one of the first female keepers on the Great Lakes until her death in a fire.
The Delta County Historical Society maintains the lighthouse at 16 Water Plant Road, offering tours from Memorial Day through October first each year.
The fourth-order Fresnel lens remains in the lantern room, continuing to mark the entrance to Little Bay de Noc in Lake Michigan.
