Prentice Women's Hospital Building

The hospital featured a concrete quatrefoil tower with nine stories cantilevered over a five-story rectangular base in the downtown area of Chicago.

The maternity center, designed by architect Bertrand Goldberg, opened its doors in December 1975 and operated until its closure in 2011.

The medical complex incorporated nursing stations in the center of the tower with patient wards positioned across four separate sections to reduce staff movement.

The structure utilized computer-aided design techniques borrowed from aeronautical engineering to calculate and implement its curved architectural elements.

The building contained a central core with four extending wings, forming a cloverleaf pattern that established new standards for hospital architecture.
