Quail Creek State Park, State park in Washington County, US
Quail Creek State Park is a Utah state park in Washington County, built around a reservoir used for swimming, boating, and fishing. The water is the heart of the park, surrounded by open shoreline that gives visitors direct access to the lake.
The park was established in 1986 after two dams were built to form the reservoir for regional irrigation and water supply. The original dam broke in 1989 and was replaced with a new structure built to a higher standard.
The reservoir is popular with people who fish for trout and bass from the shore or from boats. On weekends, the water fills with recreational boats, and the surrounding banks become a gathering spot for families.
The park is open year-round and has boat ramps, camping areas with power and water hookups, and fish cleaning stations near the water. Summer is the busiest season, so arriving early in the day helps avoid crowded launch areas.
The south dam was built using roller-compacted concrete, a method where concrete is compacted in layers that harden faster than with conventional pours. This approach allowed crews to rebuild the structure more quickly after the 1989 failure.
