Reynolda Historic District, Historic district in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The Reynolda Historic District is a 178-acre area in Winston-Salem containing twenty-two buildings designed in Bungalow and Craftsman styles. The grounds feature landscaped gardens and preserved structures arranged along Reynolda Road.
Richard Joshua Reynolds, founder of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, created this country estate as a self-sufficient property with a grand mansion completed in 1917. The private residence later transitioned to become a publicly accessible historic district.
The main house displays American art through rotating exhibitions spanning from colonial times to the present day. Visitors encounter artworks that tell stories about different periods in United States history.
The gardens are free to visit from sunrise to sunset and can be explored independently or through guided tours of the buildings and grounds. Wear comfortable shoes since the property includes paved pathways and open green spaces.
The original 1913 Lord & Burnham greenhouse is being restored and transformed into the Brown Family Conservatory. This project preserves both the historic building structure and its horticultural function for visitors.
