Wait Chapel, Religious structure at Wake Forest University campus in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Wait Chapel is a large worship building on Wake Forest University's campus, recognizable by its white steeple towering approximately 213 feet high. The structure seats about 2,250 people and sits at the northeastern edge of Hearn Plaza across from Reynolda Hall.
The building was completed in 1956 as the first structure on the new Reynolda campus. It was named after Samuel Wait, the university's founding president.
The chapel served as the main gathering place for Wake Forest Baptist Church services and shaped religious life on campus for decades. Students and visitors came together here for celebrations and spiritual moments that were part of university tradition.
The building is easily accessible from the campus, and its distinctive white steeple makes it simple to locate. Visitors should note that access may be restricted during services and special events, and respectful dress is expected.
The chapel hosted a nationally televised presidential debate in 1988 between candidates George H. W. Bush and Michael Dukakis. This event made it a notable venue in American political history.
