Rice City Historic District

Rice City Historic District runs along Plainfield Pike between Sisson Road and Gibson Hill Road, showcasing Federal and Greek Revival architecture from the 1800s. The preserved buildings span different decades of this era and represent residential and community structures.

The district grew into an industrial center during the 1800s around water-powered mills and manufacturing plants. These facilities drove local economic growth and shaped the character of the settlement.

The Rice City Church from 1846 and Rice Tavern from 1804 show how early American communities built their gathering places. These structures reflect the role that religious and social institutions played in shaping village life.

The buildings are located along Plainfield Pike at accessible points where several roads meet. Visitors can walk through the district at their own pace and view the structures from the street.

Fairbank's Corner features an industrial complex that reveals how Plainfield Pike once followed a different route. This spot preserves evidence of the original street alignment from the mill era.
