Snowplow, Abstract steel sculpture at Indianapolis Museum of Art, US
Snowplow is a steel sculpture displayed on the grounds of the Indianapolis Museum of Art. The work combines a yellow plow blade, a large rubber tire, and an industrial steel beam that are connected by chains and mounted on a pink concrete base.
The sculpture was created by artist Mark di Suvero in the 1970s when he worked extensively with industrial steel elements. It was acquired in 1975 and installed at its current location in 1977 after being displayed in other cities.
Mark di Suvero created this piece during the 1970s when he focused on monumental scale works using I-beams as structural and aesthetic elements.
The sculpture is located on the southeastern edge of the museum grounds and can be easily reached from the main entrance. It stands in an open area, so it remains visible in all weather conditions and is accessible year-round.
The sculpture moves gently with the wind, creating a subtle dynamic quality that is often overlooked by visitors. This gentle motion brings an unexpected vitality to the massive steel structure.
