Tishomingo State Park

Tishomingo State Park is a protected area in northeast Mississippi's Appalachian foothills, featuring layered rock formations, moss-covered boulders, and dense forest cover. Bear Creek runs through the property, creating a network of water features and natural valleys that shape the terrain.

Archaeological evidence shows human settlement at this location dating back to 7000 BC, with the Chickasaw people later establishing presence in the area under the leadership of Chief Tishomingo. The park reflects the long span of habitation across different periods.

The park sits along the Natchez Trace Parkway, a historic trading route that connected the communities living in this region for generations. Walking through the trails here, you can sense the movement of people who once traveled the same paths.

The park offers 13 miles of trails for different fitness levels, fishing spots at Haynes Lake, and multiple lodging options spread across the grounds. You can choose between tent camping, RV sites, and cabins depending on how long you plan to stay.

A suspended footbridge over Bear Creek was built in the 1930s and remains a striking feature connecting different sections of the park. Many visitors are surprised by this engineering detail when they encounter it on the trails.
