Tunnel, Nightclub in Chelsea, Manhattan, New York, United States.
Tunnel was a nightclub in Chelsea that occupied an entire city block between 11th and 12th Avenues, stretching across West 27th and 28th Streets. The former venue at 261 11th Avenue is no longer operating and has been undergoing redevelopment in recent years.
The building was constructed in 1891 as a freight transfer station before being repurposed as a warehouse. It became the Tunnel nightclub in the 1980s and 1990s, emerging as a major venue for dance music in New York.
The venue became known for blending skateboard culture with nightlife in a raw industrial setting. The internal half-pipe attracted skaters, music fans, and artists who shaped the experimental character of the place.
The location is situated in Chelsea on 11th Avenue and is accessible by subway. Since the building is currently under redevelopment, it is not open to visitors but can be viewed from the street.
The structure contains ancient timber beams approximately 500 years old that remain visible within the architecture. These historic elements have been preserved as part of the ongoing redevelopment project.
