Whalom Park, Former amusement park in Lunenburg, Massachusetts
Whalom Park was an amusement park situated along Lake Whalom featuring a wooden roller coaster, Ferris wheel, and water slides for summer fun. The grounds held multiple attractions spread across the waterfront property.
The park opened in 1893 as a project of the Fitchburg & Leominster Street Railway and remained in operation for more than a century. It closed in 2000 after serving generations of visitors.
Schools held yearly events where students received free entry, turning the park into a regular gathering place for families in the region. This made it an important part of how the community spent time together.
The site no longer exists as it was completely demolished in 2006 to make way for a residential development. Today a street on the new property bears the name Carousel Lane as a reference to the past.
The park contained an 1906 carousel with hand-carved wooden horses that allowed riders to grab for rings as it spun. This interactive feature made each ride feel like a small game.
