Levi Carter Park

Levi Carter Park is a large recreation area alongside Carter Lake with sports fields, picnic areas, and mature trees spread across about 520 acres. The park features multiple pavilions for group gatherings and grills for outdoor cooking.

The park began in 1908 when Levi Carter's widow donated funds to transform the former riverbank area into a public recreation space for the city. This donation made possible the development of the grounds as a permanent green space.

The Stone Soul Picnic has brought the local community together since the 1990s to celebrate traditions and strengthen connections. The event remains an important gathering where neighbors share time outdoors and maintain cultural bonds.

The park provides picnic tables, outdoor grills, and restroom facilities for visitors to use. Pavilion spaces are available for events and offer shelter during different weather conditions.

From 1949 to 1959, the grounds housed an amusement attraction with rides like a ferris wheel and pony rides for children. These attractions later disappeared, leaving behind memories of a different era in the park's history.
