Belton Court, Historic mansion in Barrington, United States
Belton Court is a large mansion in Barrington that showcases medieval architectural features, including a crenellated tower and a U-shaped design with substantial interior spaces. The structure was built as a private residence and includes multiple rooms and outbuildings reflecting the wealth of its original owner.
Frederick Stanhope Peck commissioned the mansion in 1905, naming it after his ancestral estate in England. The property converted to institutional use in 1944, first serving as a hospital and then becoming associated with an educational institution.
The mansion once held an impressive collection of rare books and historical documents that reflected the owner's passion for literature. Visitors today can sense how this repository of cultural treasures shaped the character of the residence.
The estate is surrounded by walking paths and open green spaces that invite exploration. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes since the grounds are hilly and feature multiple structures to discover.
The estate once operated as a self-contained farm complex with livestock and greenhouses managed by full-time staff. This arrangement allowed the mansion to be largely self-sufficient in its daily operations.
